Azimo, the online digital money transfer service, which is a part of the MCI.TechVentures portfolio, announced signing of Nwankwo Kanu – former international football star – as a brand ambassador. This move is set to help bring low cost online money transfer to the Nigerian community.

While as many as three million Nigerians receive money from overseas every year, the fees charged by current players on the market have been very high. Azimo – with fee-free transactions to Nigeria – beats its competitors not only in terms of pricing but also with speed of service. Thanks to Azimo revamped service people can send money from their mobile, tablet or computer to any bank in Nigeria in as little as six seconds.
Azimo was established in 2012 and currently offers online money transfers to over 200 countries in 77 currencies, reaching over 5 billion people. MCI.TechVentures fund invested in Azimo in 2015, participating in 20-million-USD worth round of financing. In May 2016, Japanese e-commerce company Rakuten, invested in Azimo to accelerate the company’s expansion into Asia.
